JAVANA: What is your name and how can people find you?
NICHI: My Name is nicHi douglas. @mynameisnicHi on Twitter, Insta and Snapchat (and maybe Vine).
J: What does storytelling mean to you?
N: Storytelling is the practice of sharing experiences, both lived and imagined.
J: What did the monologue mean for you?
N: The monologue is beautifully written. I am Marley, a young woman whose definition of "new Black" precludes race. it's sad. there is a way to embrace race (and everything it means in every moment and experience) while also allowing one's self to be unburdened by the weight of it. Unfortunately, Marley hasn't realized that yet. Her solution is to close herself off from everything.
J: What does the new black mean to you? What is "the new black"?
N: the "new black" is what everyone is afraid of. she/he/they - the "new black" - are outspoken and unafraid and unapologetically Black. the "new black" will tell you what they're thinking and what you should be thinking, too. the "new black" doesn't let anything slide. and they're better dressed than everyone else.
